Review of The Replacement Killers (1998) by Jess H — 19 May 2010
Back in the late 90's pretty much everyone thought that Chow Yun Fat was going to be in 1,000 of the best action films ever and that Mira Sorvino was going to be in every great (girls can kick you butt) flinging guns film made in the next decade.
Instead Chow made "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" which later became dubbed as "Crouching Tiger Hidden BOREDOM" and a few other less critically acclaimed films but then faded as an action star.
Mira did several middle range films but pretty much stayed out of the "shoot you in the face" flicks that she was definitely suited for. Having said all that This movie is a clinic in how to direct an action movie.
The cinematography is nothing short of brilliant, throw in some excellent casting and you have yourself an above the fray film. Techno buffs will like the soundtrack as well, just thought I would point that out.
The storyline is fairly basic and easy to follow but the acting overcomes most of that.
