Review of The Remains of the Day (1993) by Stephanie S — 05 Jun 2007
I can honestly say this movie changed my life. Or at least, I attempted to change the way I live after I walked out of the theater. I cried at three separate intervals through the course of this beautiful film.
It pretty much propelled Anthony Hopkins into my top favorite actor slot (I know he's most famous for Silence of the Lambs, but you've got to see him in this!!!). I will never forget Hopkins's character in this: a butler who realizes too late that his repression and passivity ultimately have stolen his life away.
For those who find this too sentimental in the romantic sense, the tragedy is seen on a larger scale within the background happenings of the film which lead devastatingly to World War II.
