This was incredible. One of the best on-screen pairings I have ever seen. I'm not a huge Chris Reeves fan and that's the only thing I hold against this. It's a practically flawless period film from Merchant/Ivory and what else would you expect? The movie is more than just a tear jerker romance, it's history and human drama as well.
