Review of The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2013) by Leon B — 20 Sep 2013
Review:
I must admit, I thought that this was going to be a conspiracy type movie with a bit of action and suspense, but it's about one mans journey from Pakistan to New York and how people looked at him differently after 9-11, which made him take a different path in life. I did get bored in some parts of the movie, but that not because of the actors, who put in good performances, but it was due to the storyline which had a great concept, but it just doesn't get going. The plaster Kiefer Sutherland and Katie Holmes all over the poster, but they haven't got that much to do with the film. Although the storyline is quite deep and it touches on different elements of a man in a foreign country, the director chose the wrong direction to go with the film because he was trying to cover to much ground. Average!
Round-Up:
It's good to see Riz Ahmed making a American movie with some it names, but judging by the money that it made, it didn't go down too well, which is a shame because he is a good actor. Kiefer Sutherland should have been in it a bit more and the whole love element with Katie Holmes could have easily been taken out. With the whole 9/11 situation, still being a touchy subject to many people, this movie was never going to be a bit hit with the Pakistan or American people, which was why it didn't get a major release. I just hope that Riz Ahmed gives Hollywood another go because I liked him in Four Lions and Black Gold.
Budget: N/A.
Worldwide Gross: $530,000.
I recommend this movie to people who are into there political dramas about a mans journey from Pakistan to America during 9/11. 4/10.
