Review of The Relic (1997) by M. K — 05 Jan 2013
Well directed creature horror flick. Peter Hyams is often criticized for having poorly lit films (mainly because of his choice to light the far majority of his scenes with natural light (or at least only by lights present in the scenery), however, this choice is very effective here.
It creates a unsettling atmosphere and helps out the special effects department as well. Nice work from Stan Winston and the CGI staff here as well. The script doesn't give the actors much to work with, and the story is a little thin, but the execution is as good as can be expected.
