Review of The Ref (1994) by Kristina K — 11 May 2011
The Ref follows a bumbling thief (Leary) as he tries to hold up in a house with a fighting married couple, who he is holding hostage. From what I have heard about this film and reviews that I have seen, I expected to like it more.
But, to me, The Ref never really hits its high point: there is never a consistent period in the film that I was laughing or really into the movie. Although there are a few bits that I found funny (mostly between the married couple and their bickering), I never really liked any of the characters in the movie.
I would say that, actually, the best idea I would have had for The Ref was to remove the hostage situation and instead make a movie about the couple and their family. That would have been a better show.
