Review of The Reeds (2010) by Jason D — 28 May 2010
With The Reeds, you get elements of superior horror films like Eden Lake, High Tension, and Triangle, but sadly, it's NOWHERE near as good as any of those films. The Reeds has 6 young friends embarking on a weekend boating excursion through the titular-titled area.
What starts off as fun quickly becomes deadly as the group is terrorized by a bunch of randy young thugs, not to mention a hooded figure with a shotgun. Not all is as it seems as things become pretty ghostly around the area, as well as flashback-y for the characters, but that doesn't stop their body count from rising in various gory ways.
The end result winds up being a rather bland and so-so film. If you're an avid horror fan like me, you've seen all of this stuff before and will not really be impressed by The Reeds, especially when it tries to throw multiple twists at you which are terribly predictable.
Surely, even the town retard could spot these twists a mile away. It is unfortunate. I really did want to enjoy this film, but it just wasn't in the cards. Oh well. Overall, nothing spine-chilling about this After Dark Horrorfest dud.
