Review of The Red Pill (2016) by William L — 13 Jan 2018
This is one of the most thoughtful, engaging, and intelligent documentaries I have ever seen. It takes what is by all accounts a contentious and emotionally charged subject (mens rights activism) and allows various advocates on both sides of the issues to elucidate their positions without interruption.
The filmmaker allows the audience in on her own process over the course of filming over 100 hours of interviews with mens rights activists, feminists, and anti-feminists. Having been a pro-feminist male my entire life, I really didn't expect to learn a lot from the film, but it made me aware of parts of myself that I didn't even know existed.
The film never blinks, yet is never less than thoroughly engrossing. This film definitely should have won the academy award for best documentary film.
