Review of The Reaping (2007) by Quentin A — 03 Jul 2009
I wasn't convinced by this. The beginning is dull, and did not draw me in at all and then when the story does actually get started it just feels like your begging for the ending to come because all that is happening really is that each plague is being ticked off on a list. The special effects and plagues were pretty cool but it just wasn't gripping, there was no suspense and there was absolutely nothing scary about it.
The ending is the best thing about this film, but it did take a while for me to understand as my brain was half asleep after sitting through an hour and 20 minutes of complete boredom. It's a good twist and there is finally a bit of tension created and another okay twist at the end that almost makes the film leave on a high note.
I don't think it's that religion just isn't scary anymore, because 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose', I thought, was pretty scary. But this just wasn't executed well at all and I just felt myself waiting for the predictable ending where everyone is saved .
