Review of The Reaping (2007) by Raphaela L — 25 Aug 2009
A somewhat crap version of the Skeleton Key. Both films decided to opt for mystery yet The Reaping failed to deliver a suspensful mystery horror. Instead was pretty dry, lacking genuine scares and turned out more like a biblical tale of how Satanism makes people psycho and God will always unleash his wrath on sinners though some years late due to the many young children corpses Ben finds in the tombs.
It seems deliberate and forced which is off-putting. The twist was typical, if the movie was a sure success, the Reaping 2 would have been made? Maybe direct to dvd? The acting wasn't made, Annasophia Robb was pretty good towards the end though she did seem like some jungle Tarzan at the start.
Swank did a good job but I don't think she got to deliver to her usual acting standards. Oh and Ben was cool.
