Review of The Real Jurassic Park (1993) by David B — 17 May 2016
The film that (almost) changed the way special effects were used in film, in so many different ways. This is the dinosaurs film, stealing every scene but the actors are still great. Steven Spielberg has produced a classic, with action that's on the edge of your seat.
Why it didn't win more Oscars is beyond me. fantastic film, you got to be an idiot not to like this. Despite the presence of all this acting talent, it is the film's special effects, especially the work of "dinosaur supervisor" Phil Tippett, that carry the day.
A modern classic whose superb script is even more impressive than Spielberg's expert direction and the jaw-dropping effects to create the dinosaurs - including several scenes serving multiple functions and narrative elements introduced that turn out to be essential later.
A modern classic at it's best.
