Review of The Real Dirt on Farmer John (2006) by Joe M — 30 Sep 2008
I think the blurbs about this movie mischaracterize it a bit, possibly to sell more movies to the hippie crowd.
Yes, it is true that farmer john started a little commune in the 1960's, but most of the movie doesn't even cover that period, and it is a good thing. After reading the description of the movie, and after seeing the first 15 minutes, I started thinking this movie would be yet another maudlin tour into the baby boomer's nostalgia for the 1960's, but boy did it prove me wrong.
This movie is ultimately about a farmer and his relationship to his farm and to his family. I thought it was very touching, especially for its honesty.
