Review of The Reader (2008) by Christopher D — 24 May 2011
The definition of Oscar Bait: A film released during the last two months of the year with a big cast and 'important' subject matter to attract the attention of the Academy. Mostly known for nabbing the last spot in the Best Picture category ahead of The Dark Knight and The Wrestler a few years ago.
It isnt entertaining, but it is a well acted story with an engaging plot, though the pacing is slow and there are moments of confrontation that never come to fruition, therefore there never really is a climax in the story.
It coasts with the same tone throughout and never tries to be anything more than oscar-bat.
