Review of The Reader (2008) by Paul P — 17 Dec 2011
The second half of the movie is hard to take in. Hanna takes blame for a crime she didn't commit because she wants to conceal a secret. Then they want you to sympathize with her even though she was responsible for horrible things.
And on top of that they have a scene of unbelievable power where Michael visits Hanna's "work place" So while trying for an impossible task to create sympathy for a character like Hanna, they shoot themselves in the foot with that scene.
This is still a very well made film. Kate Winslet is great, hard to think of another actress that could pull off this role. David Kross blew my mind! His reaction shots in the courtroom were scary good.
