Review of The Reader (2008) by Stephen H — 21 Mar 2012
This may be Kate Winslet's best performance. The affair between her and Kross' character is a haunting experience; Ralph Fiennes is excellent as the older man struggling to overcome the hold his first love left on him.
Even as we learn what horrific crimes her character has committed, a pat confession or plea of remorse is avoided, making the conclusion less obvious and more fulfilling. A compelling and moving film.
