Review of The Reader (2008) by Katie B — 24 Apr 2012
I was stunned by this film. Two main things stunned me: how Hannah, someone with nothing and no one, could live the saddest life all because of her one shame; the other is how Michael can stand there and do nothing, not even push Hannah to stand up for herself.
Yes, Michael remains so empty throughout his entire life, but he could have helped the one person who left a mark on his life. All he ever did was what she asked him to do: to read to her. He kept his word.
So tragic, but very moving all the same.
