Review of The Reader (2008) by Kevin D — 23 Jun 2010
A delicate, alternate look on another tale arising from World War II and the Holocaust. A balance of gentility and intensity helps propel the story of a young man and his affair with an older Nazi woman.
Director Stephen Daldry restrains the events that transpired during World War II to closely focus on the couple's relationship. Superb performances by well-deserved Oscar-winner Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes.
The film does drag on and moves slowly at times, but is nonetheless strong.
