Review of The Rapture (1991) by Laurie E — 04 Jun 2007
I saw The Rapture (1991) when it first came out many years ago, and just couldn't get my head around it. So 15 years later I figured I'd give it another try, and still I can't get my head around it.
As the title implies, it's about the rapture as described in the bible. What I don't understand is writer/director Michael Tolkin's point of view. Is he a Christian trying to spread the word of the lord? Or is he trying to say all religious fanatics are nuts? Is this movie his surrealistic argument with god? I guess I will always be confused by this film.
Anyway, it stars Mimi Rogers (Penny Dreadful 2006) and David Duchovny (?The X Files?). And for fans of the x-files, you know that secret past between Fox Mulder and Agent Diana Fowley that was always hinted at, but never confirmed? Well here it is; they were married in this movie.
