Review of The Ramen Girl (2008) by Karolina K — 03 Jul 2010
A simple romantic comedy about a girl who finds herself stranded in Tokyo after a bad argument with her boyfriend that works there. She wanted to "surprise" him but she got the worse surprise of all when she finds out how he really feels about her.
The movie is loosely similar to the Japanese classic Tompopo, but the plot is a bit ridiculous. From how she slowly gains the confidence of the ramen shop owners who take her in as an apprentice to the appearance of a ramen oracle woman who lives in the mountains, you start to wonder, where is this story going? But it plays out like most romantic comedies, and it makes you want to have a nice bowl of ramen afterwards.
The worse thing is that this was Britney Murphy's last movie, casting an odd shadow over the whole 90 minutes.
