Review of The Ramen Girl (2008) by Lyla K — 10 Oct 2009
Didn't expect much from this movie, but was pleasantly surprised instead. It's a likeable film, yet the problem lies in the language barrier. Even though having both the leads (Brittany Murphy & Toshiyuki Nishida lost in translation is funny initially, it gets old really fast.
The characters are really endearing, save from the fact that I was extremely distracted by Murphy's trout lips. Makes me want to make a really weak joke about her having one too many pufferfish, but I shall refrain.
Side characters such as Charlie & Gretchen don't do anything to add substance to the show, & could have been easily eliminated (as much as I like Gretchen's Southern drawl).
Enjoyable film, yet the main point about cooking with your heart doesn't come through convincingly enough. What a waste.
