Review of The Rainmaker (1997) by Ryan K — 30 Jun 2010
This is a very underrated, very under appreciated movie. It has a very taught, snappy screenplay executed by quite literally some of the best actors in the business. Matt Damon does a great job of capturing the sympathies of the audience almost immediately.
He gives great narration that held up the Grisham anecdotes and observations. Danny DeVito shows up in spades as always as his usual but always classic "sleaze ball" character. There are a great many effective elements in this film, but the real treat is seeing them all come together well and become a great story.
I enjoy this film whenever I watch it and think its the best Grisham adaptation.
