Review of The Rainmaker (1997) by Paul Z — 17 Dec 2012
Far from a greenhorn when it comes to skillfully adapting novels into films, Coppola made a strong, warm-blooded comeback when he turned one of the hot Grisham properties of the '90s into an engaging, character-driven David-vs.
-Goliath legal drama exploring the scuzzier domains of the insurance game, pre-Obamacare. Damon is crisp and solemn here in ways that make him a choice contrast to the rich plot's more ebullient figures, like DeVito's lovable paralegal, as well as a roster of major actors peppered in for good measure in distinctive, well-drawn supporting and bit roles.
