Review of The Railway Man (2013) by Walter T — 21 Jan 2014

I'm giving this four stars for a couple of reasons. Firstly because it tells a true story - and that's difficult, as you don't have many of the fictional storytelling devices at your disposal and are constrained by the actual events. Secondly, a good deal of the clout of this story comes through what is happening to the characters internally - and that too is hard to bring to life on the screen.

Despite these obstacles, I think the movie succeeds in being exceptionally moving.
