Review of The Railway Man (2013) by Zac C — 10 May 2014
This is by far, the best movie I have seen this year. Colin Firth is an acting god! Nicole Kidman does a good job as does Jeremy Irvine and Hiroyuki Sanada.
This is about the British officers captured by Japan in WWII and put into camps. About a specific soldier, and the man responsible for much of his torment. And most of it remains with him.
The war has been over for almost 4 decades, but everday Colin Firth's character relives it. I don't want to ruin it! But he finds out that the man responsible for his torment is still alive and seeks him out. And no this isn't a typical revenge flick.
I know it sounds like it, but this is an extremely realistic take on war, suffering, hardship, hatred, and forgiveness. I will be pissed if this isn't nominated for Oscars. If you like Full Metal Jacket, Cool Hand Luke and the like, then this is your type of war movie.
I was positively speechless. The cinematography is breath taking. The music, perfect and precise. The acting, flawless. The story, riveting. This is why I watch movies, for ones like this that capture perfection.
This is an A movie. Nothing short of fantastic!
