Review of The Raid 2 (2014) by Matt A — 16 Aug 2014
Brutal aint the word for this film! This is a very different beast to the original, with the claustrophobic feel of tyhe tower block replaced with the city streets its a slight adjustment to the world its set in.
It does have a plot that requires you to pay attention for the most part, but its the glorious frenetic fights that you are most interested in. There isnt anything to rival the final fight of the last film but it comes pretty close in a few fights, notably with Hammer Girl and Baseball Bat Man (yes that's what they are credited as) They aren't in it that much but they do leave an impression.
This is Iko Uwais' film as he yet again excels as Rama and his fights are just incredible, you feel every punch and kick! Its left open for a 3rd and I hope, if its being made, its just as good as the first 2.
With an inevitable Hollywoood remake, I truly hope they keep it as an 18 and not to water anything down... Excellent. Just prepare yourself, this is not the same as the first film.
