Review of The Quiet Man (1952) by Jane H — 05 Oct 2007
I really do love the Quiet Man. The scenery is really beautiful, the score even more so and the plot is simple but lively and fun. The film is sort of an ode to Ireland but at the same time it veers away from over-sentimental rosy romance with a whole series of quirky characters and an unconventional couple who spend more time fighting than in domestic bliss! Maureen O'Hara is beautiful and feisty in this.
I can honestly say that this is my favourite John Wayne film but since I have an irrational hatred of Westerns that isn't saying much (and if I am honest, at times I find his performance a little wooden.
).
