Review of The Quiet Earth (1985) by Ryan S — 31 May 2008
A scientist awakens and finds himself alone on Earth. The premise has been done before, but instead of facing vampires or mutated humans, this scientist at first faces himself, and then two other humans he meets.
The Quiet Earth has a great first act, but as more people show up, the film goes downhill basically because the other characters simply aren't interesting. The acting isn't much either, but there are many brilliant visuals to get you through the tougher parts of the film.
The final image is certainly interesting and brings up many questions, but the film isn't good enough to think about for too long.
