Review of The Quiet Earth (1985) by Bronwen M — 17 Sep 2011
The Quiet Earth is an interesting, if not a little slow, sci fi film. The pacing is on the slow side, but it's not a bad thing as the cast and script are interesting enough to hold the viewers attention.
Bruno Lawrence in particular does a great job here, literally carrying the first act of the film by himself. Given when the film was made and the modest budget, the effects don't look quite good. Recommended for anyone looking for a more intelligent version of the 'last man on earth' story, but expect a slower paced movie that focuses on human nature and behaviour more than anything else.
