Review of The Quiet American (2002) by Nia E — 03 Feb 2009
Really interesting and enjoyable film that makes such a change from all the other Vietnam films out there. I'd be really interested in reading the book it's based upon, as the intrigue and the history is really fascinating (goes to show that everything I know about conflict in Vietnam comes from movies, as I had no idea the French were involved!).
Great performances from Caine and Fraser, as well as a strong supporting cast. Craig Armstrong's score is wonderful, as expected, and even though some of the directing is a bit irritating, overall Noyce frames the Vietnamese landscapes beautifully.
