Review of The Quick and the Dead (1995) by Elizabeth B — 14 Mar 2008
I love Sam Raimi's spoof of the classic Spagetti Westerns! I am a fan of all of Sergio Leone's work plus some of the lesser known movies of the genre. The movie prods at famous scenes from The Good the Bad and the Ugly (the chair used to hang people) and High Plains Drifter (setting the town on fire) and even Pale Rider (gun-slinging preacher).
But it also pays tribute to the individual style and creativeness that led to the genre, the sense of mystery concerning the main character and the dark story line that took you out of the traditional movie plots.
Now these things seem cliched but in the 60's they were new and innovative! Raimi did an incredible job.
