Do not confuse this as an adaptation of the book by Louis L'amour. It is nothing like it, because it's an entirely different story. I did not really like it because it was sort of cheesy, but I did not dislike it.

In fact it just barely falls short. The acting in the film is intriguing although it might be a bit of a cliche, the characters are interesting enough to make the movie hold its footing. Sharon Stone plays the main character, and I don't want this to sound at all sexist but when I think of a western I don't think of it having a female lead, probably because it is rarely done.

It worked pretty well in this movie. Gene Hackman got better with age but I don;t think that he was ever that great of an actor, he did a lot of the same stuff over and over again. Russell Crowe is never bad, this film does not really require him to go all out, but he does enough.

Leo kind of reminded me of Ricky Nelson in Rio Bravo, it was that sort of performance, he is actually pretty dang good at times. Its an old school western with modern film making techniques. It does not all work, but what a lot of the newer westerns have done is just stick to the old format, this one tried to be a little to modern.

This film might have inspired the game "red dead revolver" I think the game might have even used Silvestri's score. But anyway, I should probably wrap this up before I start to ramble, it;s a good film but it's nothing great, I would not mind watching it again.

..maybe.
