Review of The Queen of Versailles (2012) by Matt B — 25 Nov 2012
An amazing rags-to-riches-to-rags story. While I promised myself halfway through to not feel any sympathy for the subjects, by the end of it, once her delusion is laid bare, and the reality of his business model has set in, you can't help but feel bad for them.
The movie examines many of the themes that are wrong with America, like the rampant consumerism, debt, and insatiable pursuit for more, more and more.
Early in the film, when asked why he was building a $75M home, "Because I can." was his response. Turns out, he can't.
