Review of The Queen of Versailles (2012) by J Brigham H — 19 Jan 2013

I rarely enjoy documentaries that do not specifically involve a topic that I already have a strong interest in, but THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES is a rare film. It is an adept commentary on a great many relevant happenings, mostly the Great Recession, but also class division, American consumer culture, the American family, the American dream and humans in general.

It is incredibly fascinating and also surprisingly sympathetic to its subjects but still aware. It manages to deal with politically inflammatory issues without apparent bias, but also without appearing toothless; in doing so it allows the viewer to make their own assessment.

I highly recommend it.
