Review of The Queen (2006) by Phil C — 26 Dec 2009
An effective piece of drama; although neither Frears nor Morgan seem overly preoccupied in telling us things we didn't already know. Mirren's performance is dignified and restrained; although it's not as if there are many other choices to make with a figure whose public persona is so well known.
It's a good looking film but, ultimately, is so concerned with being respectful that you sense there's still an untold story here which needs a little more historical distance to be more effectively told.
