Review of The Queen (2006) by Christopher S — 16 Aug 2012
One of the better historical films I have seen in recent times. The acting in the film was superb. Michael Sheen was perfect as the young Tony Blair but it was Helen Mirren who finally got the credit she deserved with her turn as Queen Elizabeth II.
Mirren is good looking for an older woman but she transformed herself into the Queen so seamlessly. James Cromwell was also great as Prince Philip and Alex Jennings was solid as Prince Charles. I really got to see how the Royal Family thought of Diana, a person who the press and the ordinary people loved.
Personally, I have the same opinion of Diana that Bill Maher does and I cannot believe the Royal Family took so much heat from the public for their initial stance on her tragic death. I also loved how idealistic Blair was in the late 1990s and how it all turned for the worst later.
Excellent film and definitely worth seeing.
