Review of The Queen (2006) by Adam B — 18 Aug 2010
I was too young at the time to remember much about the week Princess Diana died, so I found this quite interesting. It's strange to think that this whole film depicts just one week considering the struggle the Royal family go through, it feels more like a year.
Helen Mirren plays the part of Queen Elizabeth II perfectly. Everything about her is so believable and she just portrays the emotion the Queen must have been going through brilliantly. The other outstanding performance is from Michael Sheen who seems to have come out of no where. He got everything about Tony Blair spot on and even managed to copy his cheesy grin. James Cromwell as Prince Phillip came across as a complete bastard, but added some humour to the film.
This really is an intriguing and fantastic film. Everything from the cast performances to the representation of the manipulating media is brilliant. There are some breath taking moments and this film just made me appreciate the monarchy even more.
