Review of The Queen (2006) by Michael D — 25 Sep 2010
Being someone who lives in the United Kingdom and being Politically aware, I am familiar with the death of Princess Diana and the attitudes from the Royal Family, even though I was only a child when they actually happened.
This film really does a good job at portraying the public opinion of the matter, and there was one line in particular that I found brilliant: "crying over someone they never even knew". Helen Mirren's performance was outstanding, as was Michael Sheen's.
I felt that the biggest problem with the film was that it wasn't really about the Queen, because at times it just became the Princess Diana film and was focusing more on her death than the Royal Family itself.
Also, the first 15 minutes of exposition could have been written better. I feel it's a better film if you are British, because you're highly likely to have a memory of these events and watch them play out.
