Review of The Queen (2006) by Tyler M — 28 Dec 2010
Helen Mirren dominates as Queen Elizabeth II and Michael Sheen is amazing as Tony Blair, the young prime minister who is said to modernize England. These two people have a bit of a rivalry in the film. But when the unexpected death of the Peoples' Princess, Princess Diana comes before them, The Queen and the British monarchy just don't know what to do.
As I said at the beginning of the review, Helen Mirren was born to play Queen Elizabeth II and Michael Sheen was born to play Tony Blair. Also James Cromwell has a nice performance, but not as good as his fantastic performace in "Babe".
The film is an utterly beautiful portrait of the life of Queen Elizabeth and how Princess Diana, her daughter-in-law died in a car accident. Not only is the acting it's strongest point, The Queen is super touching.
Anybody who wants a different film about The Royal Family and to see an Oscarworthy performance from Helen Mirren than look no further.
FINAL VERDICT: 81%.
