Review of The Queen (2006) by Mike A — 07 Feb 2011
Helen Mirren was so convincing that it didn't feel at all like an actress portaying the queen..It WAS the queen.
Once you accept it as a work of fiction ( we will never know what happened with the royals and Mr Blair during that time ) then it is a delightful moving story.
It did tend to give the impression that the royal family were at odds with everyone else in the country which simply wasn't true. Many ordinary people were sorry about the death of Diana but not buying into mass hysteria.
Unsure why they got the queens personal secretary wrong. Using the correct name would hardly have been plot detrimental.
Overall a movie I enjoyed and still enjoy when I see it..It remains an occasional play from my dvd collection.
