Review of The Purge: Election Year (2016) by Brandon W — 05 Nov 2016
The Purge: Election Year is directed and written by James DeMonaco, and it stars Frank Grillo and Elizabeth Mitchell in the third film of The Purge series about Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell) who wants to become president to get rid of the annual Purge.
The New Founding Fathers don't like that, and for the next Purge coming up, they'll use that to get rid of the senator. So now when the annual Purge comes in, the senator gets protected by Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo), and they end up getting attacked by the government.
I was really surprised about how much better the second one is from the first one, and with this one going through a similar route that the second did, I'm pretty pumped to go see it, that is until it comes out on DVD that is, but hey, I still managed to see a fun film out of it.
The acting is great as Frank Grillo remains to still be intimidating, and Elizabeth Mitchell acting scared, but still remains stern and convincing as she knows the risks that she's going to take with the election, and her own life.
The action is entertaining, the humor is funny, and there's enough character development for me to give a crap about them. The writing that James DeMonaco wrote for some of the lines, is so weird that you can't help but laugh at them as no one really says them, and it just doesn't seem subtle either.
The subplot with the sisters that want their candy bar was really stupid, and not in an enjoyable way as those characters really getting on my nerves, and just wanted to see them get purged the first moment that I saw them.
It talks more about the Purge of how it affects people both mentally, financially, and physically consider that it's been going on for decades. I do think that The Purge: Election Year is the best so far in terms of the series, but I also think that this should be the last one as there's nothing much else that you can do with it, other then a prequel that has the origins of it, but if they do make another one, I'll still go see it.
