I have not seen the other movies in this franchise. But this movei is not much of a purge. Rather the reverse, in fact. For a movie that calls itself "The Purge" it is rather lacking in graphic violence.
Overall, it is rather hopeful. However, I see US society moving toward this type of scenario rather than away from it. Acting and direction are fairly good. There is no real story at all except that people kill people.
It is a good way to pass a couple of hours.
