Review of The Purge: Election Year (2016) by Greg B — 05 Jul 2016
"The Purge: Election Year" is the third installment in the horror trilogy about a national holiday where crime is legalized for 12 hours to deter crime during the rest of the year. A senator who is running for president wants to put an end to the purge once and for all, so a group of secret service detail try to protect her on purge night.
I found this movie suspenseful but underwhelming. It lacked the conviction of the second movie and it didn't feel like enough was at stake. It didn't matter to me whether the senator lived or died because the movie didn't allow me to connect with her as a character.
The plot feels scattered with too many storylines and not enough entertainment value. Though not as bad as the first film, this one was a step down from the second ------------------------------------------------------------------- C+.
