Review of The Purge: Election Year (2016) by Stephen S — 07 Jan 2017
The Purge: Election Year is a surprisingly enjoyable and entertaining film. Frank Grillo is great in the lead role. He plays an excellent action hero. The rest of the cast was unspectacular, but fine. The action is ramped up, which I enjoyed.
You can have a lot of fun with this movie. There are still aspects that are just plain stupid. Here is one character that is just so over the top. This character took me right out of the movie. Also, the film is too blunt with its political message.
If it was more subtle with it, it would've been more effective. Overall, as a fun action movie, it succeeds. Sometimes it tried too hard to be political, but this might be the best Purge movie in the series.
