Review of The Purge: Election Year (2016) by Harrylikespie — 21 Jul 2016
The Purge: Election Year was a good way for Michael Bay to finish the franchise with a new idea and loads of action and fight scenes. The fight scenes didn't feel over used alongside all of the gun violence for once, but what really got to me was the poor character development.
The characters just felt like they were there to die, I felt no emotional attachment to any of the characters. One thing The Purge: Election Year is good at doing is pushing a few boundaries here and there, it showed almost all of what the audience wanted to see in most of the fight scenes.
But it failed to surprise me and make me show concern despite how brutal the scenes were. The story is good and it's nice to see a fresh idea but the character development lets the film down, but overall it might be worth watching if you've seen the other two films and you are curious to see how it ends but if you haven't it might not be the film for you.
