Review of The Purge: Anarchy (2014) by Rajab K — 22 Oct 2014
I didn't even like the first one and it is better than this one. We've upped the budget and made the plot a bit more complex. We have five strangers (one man bent on one specific victim, a mother and daughter pursued because they are poor, and an about-to-separate couple who have conveniently had their car break down on Purge night. Purge night, for those joining in, is the one night a year in this new America where all crime is legal.
It does do its best to make a statement/make this mad and terrifying world make some kind of sense but it just runs its course early. I was calling events as they happened and there's only so much raving about "THIS IS MY RIGHT GRANTED TO ME BY MY GOVERNMENT" that you can tolerate in one sitting. A) Annoying B) All too familiar.
It's nothing special aside from as a sort of extreme case study - and obviously not an overly exact one.
