Review of The Purge: Anarchy (2014) by Jill R — 19 Sep 2014
This time around, the story gets expansion to a wider and more interesting concept into the annual purge and inner evil of more characters as well as more emotional depth that seems stuffed but is connected well enough at the end.
However, it's kinda lost the thrill and tension of the first film and turned into a higher budget action film that's just too mediocre and quite too tame for a R-rated horror film instead. The GORE here is barely shown just like the first film and it's mostly shooting violence which the film could have been just a strong rated PG-13 instead of R-rated.
The actors did all their roles well and really added up the SCARE and tension feel to the story as well as some more emotional depth. Overall, despite its bigger budget actions and plot there's still not much improvement from this sequel in violence, thrill, or FUN but it's still worth seeing for what they can do next with the story that could have been explored and expanded even more in this franchise plus, a plenty of room for improvement [C+].
