Review of The Purge: Anarchy (2014) by Roxanne R — 20 Nov 2014
Can you imagine if our nation chose to allow this event yearly? The most troubling scene was seeing wealthy people pay six figures to hunt and kill innocent, poor human beings inside a building. This sequel was a box office success, grossing $110 million compared to its $9 million budget- excellent for a return on investment (ROI)! We got the Sergeant (F.
Grillo) driving around downtown Los Angeles, deciding to help two women fighting back their kidnappers. Eva and her daughter Cali (Carmen Ejogo and Zoe Soul) are saved by Sergeant along with another couple that was hiding on the back seat of his car.
The story continues from there but it is ironic to see during the film's start the indication that unemployment and poverty are at an all time low, crediting the Purge for those statistics. The rich can protect themselves and buy poor people to kill, while the poor must defend themselves any way they can.
During a purge, I would target banks, high end stores, electronic stores but killing people would not be my intention/target. It was filmed in downtown Los Angeles and I have been around those streets, so exciting for me to say the least.
