Review of The Purge: Anarchy (2014) by Eytan D — 30 Nov 2014
This is what the first movie should have been. Though there is still not enough political satire to balance out its gory violence, "The Purge: Anarchy" is definitely a major improvement over the original.
Its atmosphere is bleaker, its violence is grislier, and it sets up a far more engaging plot: what if you were stuck outside on Purge night? By setting this premise up, director James DeMonaco poses an even bigger threat to our protagonists instead of succumbing to the simple home invasion fare the first film did.
Yes, the characters do silly things sometimes (how many times does someone have to fall down in a horror movie?), but overall, "The Purge: Anarchy" shows us a major step in the right direction.
