Review of The Purge: Anarchy (2014) by Facebook U — 14 May 2015
The Purge: Anarchy is an example of a movie that thinks it's a good film, but in reality it's even more laughable than the first one. Anarchy is in love with itself. It thinks it's gritty and thought provoking, but in reality it's just silly.
The film amps up the gore, making it feel even more like violence for violence sake. The characters are also even dumber! Seriously, your car breaks down in the middle of the purge, why would you go anywhere when the purge is going to start that night? I'd stay home to make sure something like that didn't happen.
And don't even get me started on the scene were the homeless people hide from the killers driving the cars, but as soon as the killers start shooting, they run from their hiding spots into the road because hey, we haven't already had enough blood, let's have more and more! WTF? This movie somehow manages to take every problem I had with the first film and amplifies it a thousand fold! In turn making the movie even more laughable.
Basically, if you're absolutely drunk as hell, this movie will be very fun. But to be honest, even if you're sober, you'll still have fun laughing at how dumb the movie is. This film in the end earns a 2/5 because of how laughably bad it is, and as long as you view it as a comedy, it's a masterpiece.
