Review of The Purge: Anarchy (2014) by Jason M — 15 May 2015
The first Purge fell so short on such a great idea that I have to see this one. Rumor is the movie was actually way better than than what we got out of the final cut.
Ok so "The Purge: Anarchy" takes about 15 minutes to solidify itself as being WAY better than its predecessor. The social commentary is potent and well established here and the action scenes are well choreographed.
"Why not just kill the poor off?" We already don't give a damn about them or think they have any form of entitlement to anything. Stir this with the twisted idea that it is eliminating the unemployment rate. Anarchy continues to build on its social commentary, though not knocking it out the park, it definitely makes the movie relevant. "The Purge: Anarchy" becomes less of anarchy and more of a consorted food chain of kill or be killed. The rich, the army of high tech law enforcement officials who are basically finding poor people to feed to the rich, the scavengers.
who also feed the rich for pay, the poor who are defenseless and the concluding idea that law enforcement agents are in conspiracy to participate in the purge because the citizens aren't purging enough. As barbaric as this idea may seem we have already adopted aspects of this twisted scenario we just offer up a whole lot more finesse in real life.
